8/4/08: Lynchburg Symphony Orchestra to Hold Auditions
The Lynchburg Symphony Orchestra is looking for accomplished, qualified musicians to join the orchestra as it prepares for its 25th performance season in 2008-2009.
Musicians are being sought for positions in all sections of the orchestra.
To be considered, interested musicians should furnish a resume that clearly indicates their musical abilities, noting in particular their orchestral experience. Materials can be mailed to the symphony office at 621 Court Street, Lynchburg, 24504, or emailed to info@lynchburgsymphony.com. The LSO is not able to handle telephone inquiries for auditions.
LSO conductor/music director Bruce Habitzruther will audition candidate musicians. All woodwind and brass musicians who normally transpose should be proficient in transposition to the normal orchestral keys. Candidates should be proficient in sight-reading, and they should prepare two short pieces that demonstrate technical proficiency and musicality.
In a season that begins in early September and stretches to June 2009, the LSO will present three concerts with the orchestra, two intimate evenings with special musical guests, and continue a new type of event begun successfully this past June — cabaret-style big band fundraiser events that allow the audience to listen and dance to favorite popular music. More information on the season is available by calling the orchestra at (434) 845-6604.
