A Festival of Church Choirs The orchestra hosts the combined choirs of area churches for a program of secular and sacred music, including original compositions by Central Virginia’s Dr. Mark Landry. An instrumental and vocal delight! (Sunday, October 11, 3 PM, E.C. Glass Auditorium) Get Down Tonight – The Best of Motown This is the event that had everybody up and dancin’ all night long in 2008! The great Motown hits from Bill Carroll and the BC Big Rhythm Sound. (Saturday, November 14, 9 PM, Academy of Fine Arts,) Christmas and Candlelight The second big year of this magical evening. A major fundraiser for the LSO, and a major fun event for the audience. (Wednesday, December 23, 7:30 PM, Oakwood Country Club.) Friends of the LSO Valentines Gala It just wouldn’t be Valentine’s Day without this special evening! (Saturday, February 13, 7 PM, Boonsboro Country Club. Tickets sold separately for this event.) Cherish the Return of ... Cherish the Ladies! Just in time for St. Paddy’s Day, the great all-woman Irish group returns to the delight of music lovers throughout the region. This is part of the Minds Wide Open statewide celebration of women in the arts. You’ll want to get your tickets early for this one! (Saturday, March 6, 8 PM, E.C. Glass Auditorium) The Lynchburg Pops It’s the Boston Pops in the Burg! For the first time, the LSO goes to the James River Conference Center to create a nightclub atmosphere for your favorite orchestral hits. (Saturday, March 13, 8 PM, James River Conference Center) Dancing with Strings and Other Things This combination of great music and great dance enchanted audiences in 2008. The Academy of Fine Arts, the Virginia School for the Arts, and the Lynchburg Symphony Orchestra give you a second year of this production. (March 26-28, Academy of Fine Arts Tickets sold separately for this event) Mozart: The Requiem Randolph College and the LSO team up with St. John’s Episcopal Church and Court Street United Methodist Church for this performance of the milestone — and final — composition by this genius.
