Like a phoenix rising from the ashes, the Lynchburg Symphony Orchestra has emerged strong after a difficult spring. The LSO has gone back to its roots for a homegrown 2010-2011 concert season. The LSO hosts "Oktoberfest" on October 2, which marks the 200th anniversary of Munich, Germany's, world-famous celebration. This special event, in support of the LSO, includes an Oompah band, German food, German beer, raffles, and more. The LSO will not be playing at this event. Under the baton of Music Director/Conductor Bruce Habitzruther, the LSO opens the subscription season on Oct. 31 with a fun-filled "Halloween Treats" concert, complete with a kiddie costume parade. Spooky music, such as "The Sorcerer's Apprentice," "Night on Bald Mountain," and "Funeral March for a Marionette" will fill the air that afternoon. On November 21, the LSO moves to the beautiful Houston Chapel at Randolph College for an afternoon of "Romantic Strings." The highly prized Chamber Orchestra from E.C. Glass High School will be joining the LSO. Spend a magical, romantic evening at the "9th Annual Valentine Gala" on February 12. Enjoy a sumptuous gourmet dinner, dance the night away, |
